The amazing projection experimented by the Ciutat de Palma Trophy for dinghy classes during the past years has turned this regatta - the oldest one amongst all the events that take place in the Baleares- as a top level international event.
The Real Club Náutico de Palma has included the Ciutat de Palma Trophy as one of the four most important events, with the Copa del Rey, the Princess Sofia Trophy and PalmaVela and has used this event to promote dinghy classes by means of the so called non-Olympic classes, precisely those classes not competing in the Sofia Trophy, such as the Optimist, Cadet, Laser, 420, or the Europe classes which are the perfect platform to create future sailors.
The top quality of the competitors and the large number of registered boats, year after year guarantees the regatta's success. 100 persons, amongst the staff on the water and onshore, work for the organisation of this grand sports encounter, where approximately 600 young sailors from all over the world compete for the victory. The regattas take place in the Bay of Palma coinciding with a 4 days holiday in the month of December.
The Optimist, a sailing initiation class, still remains as the star class of the Ciutat de Palma Trophy. In order to guarantee a good quality for the competition, the organisation disposes two different racing areas out on the water.
The Real Club Náutico de Palma counts on the support of the Club Náutico del Arenal in material and logistical resources.
Through-out the whole trophy the yacht club venue offers a variety of social events to which more than 1000 people assist.
